BudgetLens Privacy Policy

BudgetLens ("we", "us") is a personal expense-tracking app. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built BudgetLens to keep your financial data private to you.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password (handled by our authentication provider) to create and secure your account.
• Expense data you enter. The expenses you record — amount, description, category, date, currency, and optional account label — are stored so we can show and track them for you.
• Receipt photos. If you upload or capture a receipt, the image is stored so it can be attached to the expense and read for details.
• Voice input. If you add an expense by voice, a short audio recording is captured and sent for transcription. It is used only to create that one expense and is not retained after processing.
• Imported files. If you import a CSV, its contents are processed to create expenses.

How we use your information

• To provide the core service: recording, categorizing, and tracking your expenses against your budget.
• To automatically categorize expenses and extract details from receipts and voice, using AI (see "Third-party services" below).
• To authenticate you and keep your data isolated to your account.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or track you across other apps or websites.

Third-party services

To operate BudgetLens, we share the minimum necessary data with:

• Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage. Your account and expense data are stored here, protected by per-user row-level security.
• OpenAI — processes expense text, receipt images, and voice transcriptions to categorize and extract details. Content is sent to perform these features only.
• Netlify — hosts the app and the server functions that broker the above requests.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security practices.

Data security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Every user's records are isolated by row-level security, so no account can read another account's data. API keys and secrets are held server-side and are never exposed to the app.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the app: open the profile menu and choose Delete account. This removes your expenses, budgets, accounts, receipt files, and your login — it cannot be undone.

Children

BudgetLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
